Anderson Partners with MCC Rad-Tech Program

Giving so others can learn... Rad-Tech program receives equipment

A recent donation to Meridian Community College’s Radiologic Technology Program could be described as a gift that keeps on giving.  Anderson Regional Medical Center donated usedSiemens Radiographic equipment to the College for students to gain valuablehands-on experience as they prepare for positions in entry-level radiography.

The unit was recently in use at the hospital, explained Dale Holyfield, director of radiology at ARMC. MCC President Dr. Scott Elliott added the very valuable donation offers a “seamless transition from here to the real world.”

“This really strengthens our own program,” Elliott added.

The mission of the Meridian Community College Radiologic Technology Program is to prepare competent, entry-level radiographers able to function within the healthcare community.  A large component of training is hands-on lab practice that prepares students for clinical experience in affiliated healthcare settings.  MCC has been fortunate to have two active labs and a portable x-ray machine for students to safely practice radiographic procedures.  This gift replaces a much older machine that is no longer representative of today’s equipment, so there is little difference between lab practice and clinical practice.

Holyfield said the College trains a majority of their radiological technologists that Anderson employs. “We find the technologists are well-trained and continually meet our needs.  The program supports us and we want to support it,” he said.
