Anderson Regional Cancer Center Receives National Accreditation

Anderson Regional Cancer Center has been granted Three-Year Accreditation with Commendation by The Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons (ACoS).

Anderson received Three-Year Accreditation with Commendation following an on-site evaluation by a physician surveyor during which Anderson demonstrated a Commendation level of compliance with one or more standards that represent the full scope of the cancer program (cancer committee leadership, cancer data management, clinical services, research, community outreach, and quality improvement). In addition, Anderson received a compliance rating for all other standards.

“By voluntarily submitting to a survey that closely examined our facility and procedures, we are showing our patients that we strive for the highest care possible,” said Ray Humphreys, President and CEO, Anderson Regional Medical Center.

Status as an accredited organization means Anderson East Mississippi Endoscopic Center has met nationally recognized standards for the provision of quality health care set by AAAHC. Almost 5,000 ambulatory health care organizations across the United States are accredited by AAAHC. Not all ambulatory health care organizations seek accreditation; not all undergoing the on-site survey are granted accreditation.

AirStrip OB allows docs to ‘be there from anywhere’ by monitoring patients via smartphone

[MERIDIAN, MS] – Anderson Regional Medical Center is the first healthcare facility in the Meridian area to acquire and implement an innovative patient monitoring solution — a smartphone app — that allows obstetricians to keep a closer eye on their labor and delivery patients than ever before, Anderson officials announced today.

AirStrip OB™ delivers vital patient waveform data - including fetal heart rate and maternal contraction patterns – in virtual real-time directly from the hospital labor and delivery unit to a doctor’s smart phone from anywhere the doctor gets a cell-phone connection. Additional patient data is also accessible, including nursing notes, vital signs and order results.

The AirStrip OB app works with the iPhone™, Android, BlackBerry® and a variety of Windows Mobile® devices. AirStrip OB is cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and is compliant with federal patient privacy regulations.

“The comfort, safety and security of our patients is of paramount concern at Anderson, and AirStrip OB offers an added layer of protection,” said Ray Humphreys, president and CEO of Anderson.

Dr. Urelaine Simon- Hart, Chief of OB/GYN at Anderson said, “No matter the demands of the day or my location, AirStrip OB allows me to closely watch my patients in labor and be in a position to react immediately to a change in situation. That will contribute to improved patient care.”

Jessica Fortenberry, who was in labor this week, noted that peace of mind meant a lot to her.

“I already am 100-percent confident in my doctor, but I’m certainly glad she has what she needs to be even better at her job,” Fortenberry said. “I knew she was watching out for me, even though she couldn’t be at my bedside at all times.”
